There are many beaches around the world. Many spectacular cliffs with soaring views as far as the eye can see. Many destinations where families can unite and share cherished times together.

There is, however, one uniqueness to Cove Bay that can be found nowhere else on earth: its place in the Bajan soul. For years it has elevated the quality of life for those who visit it. Not just in the time one spends there, but also in the anticipation that Cove Bay will be there for generations to come.

Cove Bay should never lose its place in our hearts.

Unlike traditional developments, Cove Bay can become something of even more importance for everyone. Not only should it remain a picturesque destination that everyone can enjoy, but it can also become a place of economic development and entrepreneurship. Together, artisans, small business owners, Bajans, and visitors will live, play, and work.

Where the Bajan spirit and culture are embodied. Where new ideas are born. Where the arts are celebrated. Where tourists from around the world will want to spend their holidays.

Allow us to consider your ideas, your thoughts, and your wishes as we explore what we call BAJ Barbados: a new concept in mixed-use development founded on sustainability, environmental responsibility, and the experience of our cherished Barbados.

We want to create something together with you, the local community, at the table.

As we explore all the possibilities of what
would best foster a spirit of economic
development and entrepreneurship,
please let us know your thoughts.

There are several inquires about a project plan. As we are still in the initial development stages, there is no official plan -- just ideas. And we would love to hear yours!

As a devoted advocate of Barbados and it's many special assets (geography and citizens) we fully agree that every effort must be made to secure Barbados green spaces, coral reefs etc., as the island finds itself a coveted jewel In an ever expanding global society. Barbados cannot afford development without highly managed, sustainable positive purpose.
-- H.S.
Response: Thank you for expressing your devotion of Barbados. It is our every intent to be mindful and respectful of Barbados and its breathtaking beauty through responsible and sustainable methods.

Your response to K.W. on March 18 does little to satisfy the intense curiosity--and concern--of Barbadians who wish to preserve our land. It would seem reasonable that your group must already have ideas. Why not share them publicly? If you are waiting for an outpouring of ideas from Bajans, other than "Please leave Cove Bay alone!", I believe you may have seriously misjudged the Bajan people you believe you know so well. Please, make this forum a two-way street and tell us in less nebulous terms what you really want to do.
-- M.
Response: Thank you for your response. You are correct, we do have ideas of what we would like to see happen at Cove Bay, and we have shared our conceptual vision on this web site.  The risk we run in sharing specific ideas – like sustainable and environmental bamboo bicycles – is that the ideas can be misunderstood when not presented in context.  We will be very transparent and look forward to developing and sharing more comprehensive ideas in a public forum as they become clearer.  Please have patience and please use this forum to let us know what you think would benefit St Lucy.

Why don't you just let it remain as unspoiled as it is or try going some where else and ruin that places beauty or better yet give or sell the land to the people of the country?
-- E.
Response: Thank you for expressing your voice of concern. We also do not want to spoil or ruin the beauty of Cove Bay. We are hoping to create something magnificent that will be very mindful and respectful of the land.

At a gut level, we have serious reservations about this proposed development but would welcome further detailed information in order to formulate a reasoned and informed response.
-- K.W.
Response: Thank you for awaiting further information.  There are very exciting options ahead of us and we look forward to developing and sharing them publicly.

"There is, however, one uniqueness to Cove Bay that can be found nowhere else on earth: its place in the Bajan soul."  I couldn't agree more... but what makes you think the soul will stay if you start building on it.
-- M.
Response: If we built a project that was not celebrated and enjoyed by Bajans, the soul would be gone.  We have zero interest in that outcome.

"There is, however, one uniqueness to Cove Bay that can be found nowhere else on earth: its place in the Bajan soul. For years it has elevated the quality of life for those who visit it. Well said...leave the place as unspoiled as it is, thank you.
-- P.T.
Response: We hope to gain your support, and we ask that you engage us as we formulate and present options.  We believe we can accomplish something significant on this significant land.

BIG IDEAS

March 23, 2011

I love the space that is Cove Bay. I am glad to know that there is a group who feel the same. I believe that any construction would diminish its beauty. Maintenance on buildings would be challenging and always at risk of neglect. But I believe that the world's most beautiful golf course and park for all to share can fit nicely at Cove Bay.
-- A.H.
Response: Thank you for sharing your love of Cove Bay. Outdoor recreational facilities that enhance and celebrate the land at Cove Bay will certainly be part of a successful development.

Can there be access from the public road to the cliff edge (maybe 20ft in with some parking), which remains public so that it can be used for picnics, etc.?
-- G.A.
Response: This is a great idea! Cove Bay should and will remain a place where residents and visitors will have open access to the ocean and the land for use of picnics or other outdoor recreation.

On a recent social media posting, a suggestion we will explore further is to develop a museum to honor the settlers that arrived on the East Coast seeking a better life and build a replica hut to showcase life during those times. Nice idea!
